REFLECTIONS ON PRESIDENT TINUBU'S NEW YEAR MESSAGE

REFLECTIONS ON PRESIDENT TINUBU'S NEW YEAR MESSAGE   by Adesola Yaqub The president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu delivered his new year message early in the morning of the new year day. The 16 minutes speech was apt, a summary of the trajectory of his administration since inception in May 2023, to where things stand and also a projection into the future and the things to expect by Nigerians. A cursory dissection of the speech would make one to draw a conclusion that we are seeing a president who is passionate about the transformation of the country, in ensuring that things work. He commenced by giving gratitude to God and thanks to citizens. He acknowledged the fact that the year that just finished was an “ eventful and challenging year ” referring to the general election, the mandate, the nation’s transition and transfer of power, making it yet another big step on our democratic journey as a nation. The president reiterated through ...

RE:OKEY ORAMAH: THE CALM IN GLOBAL BUSINESS' STORM

Image
Please permit me a space in your newspapers to lend my voice on an article on your dailies, published on the 28th October, 2022, titled “Okey Oramah: The Calm in Global Business’ Storm” by a guest columnist. The author depicted our world as though, an abode of endless possibilities, an enclosure of multiple turbulence, both natural and man-made. But alas, in all these adversaries, mother nature has endowed man with capacity and intellect to rule his territory, confront his challenges and transform for greater good. Once in a long while, great people rise and stand above all worthless tendencies of pettiness and flesh greed. They lunch into humanity to deliver influence and shoot for greatness. They deliver a rare kind of leadership through service and they uphold service to excellence through diligence and ingenuity. Okey Oramah belongs in this class. A renowned change agent, silent revolutionary and an achiever of international repute, with a trial blazing record of excellence a...

TINUBU IN CHATHAM HOUSE

Image
Tinubu was asked 10 questions during his interactive session at Chatham House but Tinubu did something strange before answering the questions. Tinubu before taking on the questions said he has a team and the questions will be answered by not just him but also by some members of his team which hopefully will form the next government. Tinubu went on to answer 4 of the questions leaving Governor El-Rufai, Femi Gbajabiamila, Betta Edu, Wale Edun, Dele Alake and Ben Ayade to take on one each of the remaining 6 questions. The Tinubu administration when he was Lagos State Governor had a similar approach to governance as Tinubu allowed his commissioners bring up ideas for deliberation and eventual implementation. Tinubu idea of governance is quite a strange one but an effective one as it worked perfectly in Lagos State and has continued to work with successive governors of Lagos State. The President can't be everywhere and this is why Tinubu believes in having a team that can be everywhe...

ALAKE ADEYEMO: A UNIQUE POLITICAL BRAND (28TH MAY, 2019)

ALAKE ADEYEMO: A UNIQUE POLITICAL BRAND (28TH MAY, 2019) The “Great Man Theory” of leadership assumes that the capacity for leadership is inherent and that great leaders are born. It teaches us that leaders are exceptional people, born with innate qualities destined to lead. In a few hours, on the 29th of May, 2019 precisely, our father and elder statesman, Sir Moses Alake Adeyemo, shall wind down and bow out after serving meritoriously as the Deputy Governor of Oyo State for eight good years. A position that providence and destiny thrust on his lap at a time when he thought he has given enough in service to humanity. One position that has put him into various delicate and dangerous tests and queries before the people he serves and even God. Our joy is that Elder Alake did not fail in his duty. This is not a partisan patronage and those who know my political lining cannot agree less. A 1979 graduate of University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Sir Moses Alake, an indigene of Igboho, ...

RE: OLANIYAN DECIDED TO BE SMART. WE SHOWED HIM WE ARE SMARTER (14/11/2022)

RE: OLANIYAN DECIDED TO BE SMART, WE SHOWED HIM WE ARE SMARTER (14/11/2022) We read with amazement another stage-managed interview of Hon. Dayo Ogungbenro, the chairman of the Oyo State chapter of the PDP, made public on Sunday 13 th November, 2022, where among other things he reiterated all the already known half-truths   and super-hyped pseudo-achievements of the Governor Seyi Makinde led administration in Oyo State, forgetting well that the good people of Oyo State are wise and politically savvy enough to identify a well packaged scam even when properly coloured as real and cannot be taken for granted into a repeat of a missionless trip into futility. After rigorous blabbing about a not-coming second term , the non-ending crisis of the Oyo PDP and an ass-licking position on Ayu/Atiku imbroglio, the chairman took a field day in highlighting how he and his co-travelers are smarter than the then Deputy Governor, His Excellency, Engr. Rauf Olaniyan in the political crisi...

THE GIDEON AREMU THAT WE DO'NT KNOW (7TH APRIL, 2015)

Image
THE GIDEON AREMU THAT WE DON'T KNOW !! The present political situation in the land can best be described as a 'jankara' market (a black-market sort of) whereby any product goes for as long as money comes in. But even at that, the few who are equipped with age long antecedence and who can still reason and see, will still pass a fair, mild and accurate judgment and as such, take their decision in the good side of posterity. I have known Gideon Aremu, the candidate of the Labour Party (LP) for the Oyo State House Assembly election coming up on Saturday, the 11th of April 2015, since in the 90s. He was a year ahead of me at the highly exalted Irepo Grammar School, Igboho, where he graduated in 1993 with a record that called for the envy of many. He was a very intelligent student with a very abnormal and scary skill, Further Mathematics was his best subject and he, with the combined efforts of his co-scholars then, influenced a lot of students then, especially, in the science...
