TÁSOÒLÓ: BETWEEN AMBITION, FATE AND STATESMANSHIP (MARCH 2019)
TASOOLO: BETWEEN AMBITION, FATE AND STATESMANSHIP
The last 48 hours have been very dramatic and revealing to me as a man and as a politician, returning me to that important teaching of the of the Holy Quran which says “With Him are the keys of the invisible. None but He knows them. And He knows what is in the land and the sea. Not a leaf falls but He knows it, not but a grain amid the darkness of the earth, nor anything green or withered but is recorded in a clear book” (Quran 6:59)
I have a vision on serving humanity and I have committed my entire life growing it. I have put my best learning the rope, taking tutelage, seeking knowledge and strategically positioning myself to the realization of my dreams and aspiration. But Allah is the final decider. And only God knows the time and the hour, I do not know but definitely, THE TIME HAS NOT COME!
The waves of the results of the presidential and national assembly election conducted on the 23rd of February, 2019, in Oyo state, necessitated an all-important coalition of most of the opposition parties in the state, my great party, the ADC, inclusive. We came out to a stark reality of the need to confront a worthless reign of anti-masses, fascist administration, soiling the land with hardship, pains and gnashing of teeth in the last eight years and we have the inner conviction that no amount of sacrifice is too much to put an end to this charade. In the light of this and in the consideration of the supremacy of the wish of the common good ahead of personal desire, my ambition as the candidate of the ADC, into the Oyo State House of Assembly, has been affected in the new alliance and has been willingly put to a STOP.
Honest statesmanship is the wise deployment of individual meanness for the public good. This is a painful decision for me to take. However, it is not an act of cowardice, nor a decision taken in duress. I am sure of one thing, it isn’t the hero who saves the world, it is the person most willing to die first for a course. Remember, in the beginning, I promised us that I shall inject into our political system, a dose of POLITICS WITHOUT BITTERNESS. The sacrifice which causes sorrow to the doer of the sacrifice is no sacrifice. Real sacrifice lightens the mind of the doer and gives him a sense of peace – and joy. I have retired my fate unto my creator and I have peace from within.
To my friends, supporters, promoters and fans who may have felt so disappointed, I sincerely apologize. Sincere appreciation to my family, mentor, party leaders, youths, women, well-wishers, volunteers, donors, admirers, advisers, traditional rulers, community and religious leaders, farmers, market women, artisans, civil servants and all those who believe in THE TASOOLO PROJECT. Thank you very much. I thank you for the affection and solidarity.
And to my beloved wife, my biggest source of strength, I thank you and I love you.
I congratulate winners of last election and I salute my brother-compatriots in the contest ahead and I wish all the best.
I believe strongly that destiny is driving us to a place of glory, probably the time is yet to come.
OORELOPE, E SE OOO!
